I hope to acquaint all visitors to this site with The Sikhs & their culture through my series on the topic. The more we know about each other, the less chance is there of misunderstanding. I'm confident knowledge of different people will pave the way for a loving world, and my art will contribute in this effort; it will provide opportunities for everyone to become agents of change in their own communities. The Sikh Religion originated in Punjab, India but the Sikh Americans have been in the US for over 125 years. Sikhism is an independent faith and the world’s fifth largest religion. Signifying their commitment to their faith, Sikhs do not cut their hair, and cover their heads with turbans. Sikhs believe in one God, equality among all, freedom of religion, and community service.
History: The first Sikhs came to the United States in the 1890s to work in the lumber mills of the Pacific Northwest, on the farms of California, and to build the railroads that would connect America. Sikh American pioneers tried to help their country fulfill its promise of equality and opportunity for all who call it home.
